‍On 25-26th:

Climathon: Cities.Hacking.Solutions.
Global Climathon Day: 25th October 2019

WHAT IS CLIMATHON?
Climathon is the largest global climate action programme for cities and citizens with a powerful solutions-hackathon at its core – Tallinn joins over 130 cities worldwide in this 24-hour hackathon, where teams compete in developing innovative solutions to their cities’ major climate and sustainability challenges.

We will have international speakers and workshops to guide you through the process, experts as mentors and jury, prototyping possibilities and follow-up programmes/prizes for the best teams and ideas!!

This year’s Climathon Hackathon is all about CIRCULAR ECONOMY, which is aimed at rethinking our current solutions and systems to eliminate waste and focus on the continual use of resources – we need to move away from the current “take, make, waste” model to a circular one of “make, use, return”.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS in a wide array of topics – to give you some inspiration we’ll bring out a few problem statements, however there will also be more specific challenges from our partners to be announced:

♻️ How to create revenues from production residues or to avoid them in the first place? How could we remove non-degradable waste from nature and give them a new life? How to improve current waste management systems? (Less than 30% of Estonia’s waste is recycled, 70% of opportunities!)

🌾 What could be the eco-friendlier future materials? How to make better product design so they would last according to their need and be recycled more easily after their use? How to improve reuse, repair, disassembly and durability of products? What are the new service-based business models for under-used items?

📣 How to raise people’s awareness and enable them to make sustainable choices? What could be new public-private initiatives to boost circular thinking? How to apply more public pressure to companies and governments to act more sustainably? How can Tallinn city enable or help these initiatives?

💡 How to use digital solutions and data management to tackle the aforementioned questions? What can be measured, tracked, optimized, made more efficient?
